Here at Graythwaite there are lots to see and do from looking around our beautiful gardens, visiting Grange over sands to sit in the bandstand or visit the fantastic pond, and just a short distance away you have some of the most prolific lakes in the country from Lake Windermere to Coniston Water.
English Lake District
Just a 10 minute drive from Grange-over-Sands and you arrive on the southern shores of Lake Windermere in the central English Lake District National Park.
Whatever the weather, the English Lake District has something to offer from the lakes, mountains and hills which give the area its outstanding beauty to the countless activities, interesting & unique shops and visitor attractions suitable for all the family.
For the energetic there are the Lake District fells, footpaths and lakes to explore with walks available for all ages and abilities. If you prefer a more leisurely day out why not visit the many museums and historic houses such as Levens Hall near Kendal and Wordsworth's Dove Cottage in Grasmere.
If you want to just sit back and enjoy the scenery, you could take a leisurely cruise on Coniston Water or Windermere Lake and just watch the world go by.
Askam pier
You can head towards Askam pier for a spectacular sunset, only about 30 minutes away from our hotel, but it's worth the effort. As the sun hides behind the hills the sky changes colour every few minutes from reds and purples to oranges and yellows and the reflection across the surface of the water will make it a vacation to remember.

Holker Hall where you can look around the victorian style 16th Century Estate, enjoy the fantastic gardens, and relax in the courtyard Café.
Abbot Hall is one of Britain's finest independent art galleries, housed in a Georgian billa on the banks of the river Kent in the market of town of Kendal, the galleries offer two floors of light filled spaces in which to see art. The intimate rooms and tranquil settings are used to show British painting or overload, to uplift the spirits in an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere.
Lakeland miniature village A fascinating insight into the buildings of Lakeland's yesteryear - over 120 buildings made from Coniston slate. Houses, farms, barns and bridges down to wishing wells with delightful water features throughout, create the Lakeland landscape hand-crafted by Edward Robinson.
Promenade In Grange we have a fascinating promenade in which you can walk down and enjoy the sites, fantastic gardens and a quaint tea room while you enjoy the view.
Armitt art gallery Over fifty thousand objects of local and international interest are housed in Ambleside's Armitt Museum and library in an extraordinary display of historic photographs, famous water colours, renowned works of art, ancient artifacts and an amazing collection of more than 10,000 precious books.
Steam Gathering For more than thirty years, the Cumbria Steam and Vintage Vehicle Society has been bringing together vintage and steam vehicles across the world for one massive summer event, just outside Grange over Sands.
